Description: |
The use of scratch
testing method in order to evaluate the adhesion strength and intrinsic
cohesion of hard and brittle coating on softer and tougher substrates
is now well established. This method is considered as the most widely
applicable adhesion strength test between layers. The scratch test
can be used for both thin and thick films on metallic or ceramic substrate.
During the test, diamond tip is drawn across the coating surface under
a continuos or a stepwise increasing load until at some critical load
the coating becomes detached from the substrate in a regural manner.
The critical load (Lc) can be used as a measure of coating adhesion
strength. |
