Puskin 14-16 Courtyard Garden

Year: 2024-2025.

Location: Hungary, Budapest VIII. district

Service: Concept design and Construction plan

Collaboration: Tervezőlabor Építészeti Kft., Sándor István Szűgyi

The main goal of the courtyard renovation is to create a garden that residents can truly love – a green oasis in the heart of Budapest. The design focuses on two main goals: preserving the existing 50 years old Gleditsia tree – a key character of the space that requires careful planning and construction – and removing the old concrete pavement to free the tree from its “concrete prison” while creating a vibrant, layered planting of groundcovers, perennials, shrubs, and trees.

Carefully selected plant species ensure year-round visual interest, with evergreens, early spring blooms, and winter berries. Reducing hard surfaces and increasing vegetation also helps mitigate the building’s moisture problems, as plants naturally absorb and evaporate rainwater.

Two types of paving are used: large concrete pavers and complementary brick detailing, which forms an informal path through the central planting bed, inviting residents to walk through and experience the garden up close.

Just like the Lujza Courtyard Garden, this project will also receive municipal funding through the “Égig Érő Fű” program to support the construction works.
