In 2023, the Municipality of Budapest held a competition to design a memorial in one of the city’s main parks, honoring Mari Törőcsik, one of Hungary’s most beloved actresses.

Our proposal was inspired by her spirit — joyful, vibrant, and deeply connected to people. We envisioned a flower garden that embodies these qualities: evolving with the seasons, welcoming both wildlife and visitors.

The sunken garden’s form evoked the shape of the ancient amphitheaters. A bench lines the outer circle, inviting visitors to sit and experience the „performance” happening at the center – a vibrant, ever-changing play of colors, forms, and scents brought to life by the flowers themselves.

Small irrigation channels run from the base of the bench toward the flowers, representing the many friends and colleagues who nourished Törőcsik’s life and career, just as the water sustains the garden’s growth.

The planting palette was carefully chosen to ensure year-round interest, from the fresh blooms of spring to the warm tones of autumn.

This project was not only a tribute to an extraordinary artist, but a celebration of life’s ongoing, beautiful performance – staged not in grand gestures, but in the quiet, ever-changing poetry of nature.
